Tracie’s Story

We met Tracie in December of 2018, through another pregnant mother who was living with her. Tracie had just moved into her house, but had no furniture or household items. With five children, she was struggling to make ends meet. Thanks to our wonderful Helpers, we were able to furnish her house and make sure the children had a good Christmas that year.

Tracie officially became a client last spring when she discovered she was pregnant. With a full house already, and financial issues, she was in a very difficult situation and in need of real support. Our mission is to ease the burdens of our clients with support services and to give them hope…and that is just what we did for Tracie.

Two of her sons had problems in school with learning and behavior. Both were placed in a program called CASTLE, Children Achieving Success through Therapeutic Life Experiences. Helper Mary Anne attended the preliminary meetings with Tracie to advocate for her and make sure the boys received all of the services they needed.

Tracie’s three-year-old daughter has Sickle Cell Disease and her nine year old son only has one lung and is on a transplant waiting list. Tracie relied on Helpers to transport her to medical appointments and trips to the emergency room as well. If we were not able to bring her ourselves, we provided an Uber.

In addition to her children, Tracie’s disabled mother lives with her. We have provided the entire family with food, clothes and other essentials. When she and her family were forced to move because the house was infested with mice, Helpers paid the security deposit for her new place. We also delivered her a washing machine so she wouldn’t have to wash clothes by hand.

We have also helped with diapers and wipes when baby Emanie (named for her Dad, Emanuel) was born November 22 nd weighing 6 pounds, 12 ounces. We also helped with a Thanksgiving basket and Christmas gifts for the family this year.

Emanie’s father was injured on the job. When the doctor gave him permission to return to work, his job was no longer available. Our plan is to have him meet with Deacon Dave, a new Helpers volunteer, who works with our clients to help them obtain careers, not just jobs. We hope a new career will lead to better pay and will help this father to support his big family!

Emanie was recently admitted to the PICU with RSV, a respiratory virus. Tracie said she was afraid she’d lose her when the baby had to be put on life support. We posted on Facebook asking for prayers and many of you promised yours! Thank God, the baby was released and is back home to continue her recovery.

Tracie is very grateful for everything we have done…and we could not have done it without your help! Thank you for continuing to be a light in the darkness!

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:14-16.
