Sarah & Tommy’s Story

It was last summer when we met Sarah and Tommy. After Sarah’s mother sadly passed away, the couple lost their place to live and were sleeping in their car. Sarah had just found out she was pregnant at this time. Ten weeks along and thrust into this difficult situation.

Once we connected with the couple, Helper Mary Anne immediately sprung into work. She started by giving them a list of places to contact for services. We were able to place them in a motel as well and encouraged them to try and find work. Tommy found a warehouse job and Sarah began waitressing soon after. With your generous donations we were able to provide Sarah with money to buy a uniform shirt and shoes. We also provided them both with bus passes for travel.

Sarah and Tommy were able to find an apartment to rent and we paid the application fee and helped them with the security deposit. Mary Anne delivered furniture and household items to them, including a sofa, loveseat and beautiful bedroom set that someone had generously donated.

“Thank you is an understatement,” Sarah texted soon after. “We are so grateful for you reaching out and helping us in ways nobody else would”.

Due to pregnancy complications though, Sarah was unable to keep working, and was put on bedrest in October. Unfortunately the stress of the situation became too much and the couple separated. Tommy became uninterested in parenting the way Sarah felt he should. It was at this time she decided she would not be able to continue along this road alone. That’s when we introduced her to Family Options and began talking about adoption with her. (http://www.famopt.org/)

Sarah was grateful that she was able to choose the family her baby would grow up in and that she could have a relationship with her child if she wanted to. She picked a couple after viewing many profiles and was able to meet them. She loved them right away. For the duration of the pregnancy, and even after delivery, Helpers NJ worked in conjunction with Family Options to care for Sarah’s needs.

Sarah gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on March 4, 2020. Seventy two hours later, the required NJ state legal waiting period, she signed the adoption papers. This act of sacrificial love was very difficult, but Sarah is confident that it was the best choice for her and her baby girl.

Due to the rules of adoption we cannot show you a picture of this beautiful baby, but we have a few other pictures to share. Thank you for your continued support. Because of it, we are able to help women like Sarah choose life.
