Tunysha’s Story

When we met Tunysha when she was in a very difficult situation. She was pregnant, homeless, in a domestic violence relationship and had a one year old daughter. The Helpers immediately sprung into action. We found her a mother and child program in New York and drove her there to live while she waited for low-income housing in Camden. We were instrumental in helping her to secure this housing by providing a needed recommendation. When she moved into her new home, Helpers provided furniture. Tunsyha was especially happy to receive a washing machine!

Because Tunysha suffers from anxiety and depression, she receives counseling. We have provided transportation for her to get there as well as to get to doctor appointments, food shopping and social service trips. Helper Mary Anne has delivered necessities including medicine when the baby was sick.

“Helpers have been a great support system to me and my children,” Tunysha said. “The Helpers help me when I need diapers or if I just needed someone to talk to whenever I was feeling down.”

Her 3rd daughter, Serenity, was born prematurely at 28 weeks and was in the hospital for two months. The Helpers were instrumental in providing transportation for her to get back and forth to the hospital during that critical time.

When she became pregnant again there was great concern that the baby would be born prematurely and she was put on bedrest. Helpers NJ not only provided transportation for her at that time, but Mary Anne picked her kids up from school on many occasions.

At one point Tunysha was feeling so overwhelmed that she called Mary Anne and said she was going to schedule an abortion. Mary Anne told her that this baby was as much her child as the others and that abortion was the wrong choice. She was reassured we would support her. We introduced her to Family Options so she could be educated about open adoption. She seriously considered placing her son with a family but then chose to parent.

Tunysha has always expressed her appreciation for our support. She has done volunteer work to help us. She addressed and stuffed envelopes for bus trips and has written our name on hundreds of Boscov’s discount passes for fundraisers!

Baby Zaiden Noah was born on October 18, 2019. He was 7 lbs. 5oz. At his first doctor visit a problem with his breathing was detected. He was sent back to Cooper and later transported to Nemours Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Delaware. They diagnosed a collapsed lung and he has been there for almost a month. Again Helpers has pitched in to get Mommy back and forth to her girls in New Jersey. The baby is improving steadily and the doctors hope he will be home next week. We pray that he and his family will be home together for Thanksgiving!
