Adoption Saves Lives

It was a few months back when a young woman reached out to The Helpers through our website. She was struggling. She was pregnant and had been through rough times in the beginning of her pregnancy and was just starting to get back on track. She told us she loved her baby and wanted him to be “safe,” but she was not sure if she was able to take care of him herself.

In a conversation with her boss about her pregnancy, she mentioned to him that she was considering adoption. Her boss told her that he knew a couple who wanted to adopt in the area and offered to set up a meeting.

Our new mom was very scared. Although she wanted to meet the family, she was very nervous about not being in the baby’s life if she did make the choice for adoption. The Helpers eased her concerns and put her in touch with Family Options, the only agency we work with and highly recommend. Family Options cares about birth-mothers as much as we do. They will do everything possible to help mothers feel comfortable with the adoption process and to make sure they are physically, mentally and emotionally well before and after the baby is placed.

When a mother chooses a couple to parent her child, that doesn’t mean she is committed to the decision at that time. The final decision is not made until at least 72 hours after the birth of the baby. There is no pressure, just information shared when she meets with an adoption counselor. This mom continued to meet with the couple and also worked with a counselor at Family Options who advocated for what she wanted out of an adoption plan. The agency also gave her financial and emotional support throughout the entire process.

In this case, the prospective parents were new to Family Options, but the agency expedited a home inspection and background check since mommy was in her eighth month.

When the day came for delivery, the adopting couple met her at the hospital. A healthy baby boy was born and the three all named him together. Three days later the adoption papers were signed and they all left the hospital together. Even workers at the hospital were touched by the love they all displayed for each other. Truly a happy ending for everyone.

Choosing life is always the right choice. Thank you, Helpers, for building a culture of life, love and family with us!

Privacy in the adoption process prevents us from sharing pictures this month, but we would like to share a poem that was written by another birth mother.
